Re: Lanzini injured?
wd40, I'm sure in some cases they are such highly strung athletes that they are right on the limit of what is possible and break down as a result.

However, a few years ago, there was an England cricket coach on TV saying that the problem they have is that these days promising players are identified young and then told to focus on one sport to the exclusion of all others. This meant that the players were turning up with unbalanced bodies, issues with the core for example that produced problems elsewhere.

Back in the 70s and 80s, he argued, cricketers would generally be the types to play Rugby in the winter, cricket in the summer and their bodies were far more robust as a result.

I'm sure it applies to football (if not more so) I do despair when I hear of kids as young as 8 training with professional clubs and being told not to do any other sport. I'm sure most of us involved in any way with the kids game have heard those stories.

It's funny, a lot of the amateur football clubs started as a way that cricketers could stay fit during the winter. It's almost as though we intuitively knew what was best 150years; that we can't work out today with all the computer power at our disposal.

Re: Lanzini injured?
Sure the game was much slowly many years ago but I cant recall players having so many long term injures when I use to watch us week in week out through out the 70's/80's
or wasn't that the case ?

With all the so call specialise equipment about and a approx 10 fitness coaches in each department you think it would be so much better.
maybe just
not drinking lots of milk as a kid -makes good bones as your Mun would say.

Hopefully just Lanzini being sensible and following the medic's instructions for getting the knee back to full fitness by our next game on 11th September. That's a whole week after he could have played for Argentina.

Rest is probably just as important at this stage as flying half-way around the world and stopping the on-going treatment he's getting. I wouldn't worry about it as he's not been on top form anyway so unlikely to start against Huddersfield.

with google translate:

Argentina on Monday injured Manuel Lanzini at the start of the practices in the face of the momentous game against Uruguay by the World Cup qualifiers to Russia 2018.

The West Ham midfielder has a "right knee injury" that will prevent him from playing not only against Uruguay on Thursday but also against Venezuela on September 5, confirmed the Argentine Football Association (AFA).

It was not reported whether Sampaoli will convene a replacement.

Argentina marches fifth in the playoffs, out of the top four places that directly qualify for Russia. If they stay there, the Albicelestans will have to play a repechage against the leader of Oceania.

The match against Uruguay at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo will be Sampaoli's first in the qualifying rounds after debuting as Argentina's helmsman with two friendly wins against Brazil and Singapore. The extimonel of the Seville and of the selection of Chile replaced Edgardo Bauza.

Led by the star Lionel Messi, the Argentine team began training in the national team of the locality of Buenos Aires Ezeiza. Within four days of the game against Uruguay, the coach seems doubtful about the inclusion of Javier Mascherano in a defense with line of three. Meanwhile in the midfield Fabricio Bustos, Lautaro Acosta or Emiliano Rigoni fight for right and Lucas Biglia, Guido Pizarro and Leandro Paredes for playing in the center.

In addition to Messi, the goalkeeper Sergio Romero, defenders Gabriel Mercado and Nicolás Otamendi are assured of a place, and Ángel Di María, Paulo Dybala and Icardi are offensive.

Sounds to me like he's taken the decision he's not fully fit and wants to stay back to get fit again.
